Joan Hunter Grayson, an adored mother, beloved sister, dear aunt and niece, and cherished friend, passed into the arms of our God on April 20th, 2015. Joan was born to Edgar Eugene Hunter and Betty Joyce Hunter on January 20, 1952. Joan’s young adult life was primarily spent in Lubbock, Texas, where she graduated from Coronado High School. She attended Texas Tech University and pledged Alpha Phi. Post College, Joan began a long career as a flight attendant for American Airlines for over 30 years. Joan made her home in Dallas for almost forty years and then recently began a new adventure in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Joan touched the lives of everyone who knew her with an infectious laugh and smile, fun sense of style, quick wit, creative eye, generous spirit, and empathetic heart. Joan danced to her own drum with zeal and had a gift for surrounding herself with many wonderful friendships. The love of her family and friends is her true legacy. Joan is survived by her only daughter Ali Grayson Terry and husband Aaron, her sister Becky McKinney and husband Paul, her brother Michael Hunter, and her sister Julianna Hunter Dallas. She was “G.G.” to her granddaughter Hadley Terry. She is survived by her sister-in-law Sally Cullum and husband Mark, her sister-in-law Lissie Donosky and husband Steve, her aunt Nelda Scott, her aunt Suzanne George and husband Bill, her nephews Robby Lacey, Ricky McKinney, Christian Cullum and Drew Donosky, and their respective families. Joan will never be forgotten or replaced, and we count ourselves blessed to have felt the warmth of her love. Joan was a rare, irreplaceable star in our world.
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” – Audrey Hepburn
