In Celebration of

Marty Burke Maj. (Ret'd)

August 1, 1942 -  March 15, 2015

Thomas Martin “Marty” Burke Maj. (Ret’d), CD

Suddenly but peacefully, Marty passed away on March 15, 2015. He will be dearly missed by family and friends, including his children Katrina and Steve, grandchildren Liam, Olivia and Hazel, son-in-law Steve, daughter-in-law Dana and beloved friend Leila Constable.

Born in Ottawa, raised in Ogdensburg, NY, he was a proud alumnus of St. Michael's College in Colchester, VT. He would later serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 29 years before seeking new goals in the private sector. He retired to Portland, in the Rideau Lakes region where he loved to fish and kayak and began his second career as a nature photographer.

Marty touched the lives of people on both sides of the border and stayed active in many groups and associations.

I am sadden to hear of your loss, of a loving Father, Father in Law Grandfather. He is now in the hands of God, an Angel now looking down upon all of who he loved. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten.
Accept my sincere condolences and may you all be strong during this sad time.
Thinking of you and I am here for you always.
Sincerely, Debbie & Simon xoxoxo

I'm really shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Marty's passing. He was a wonderful friend. We were in Perth camera club together. Marty was helping me with a turtle conservation photography project and so we'd have lunch at the Tangled Garden in Westport and gab about photography, and conservation and life. I loved Marty's wicked sense of humour. He always made me laugh. He was really generous with his time and always eager to help. I will miss him very much and think of him this summer when I'm out in my kayak photographing turtles. My deepest condolences to all of Marty's family.

I am greatly saddened by Marty's death, as are all who knew him. I had the deepest respect for his incredible skill as a photographer. His wildlife photos were superb. I knew Marty through the camera club where he will be sorely missed. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Marty is my cousin. His mother was my fathers sister. I have many fond recollections of visiting at Pat and Buds in Ogdensburg so very long ago. Marty and I started an email and face book friendship several years ago. He shared many old photos of our relatives from his extensive collection and of course his daily face book submissions of wildlife and daily sentiments. Marty even took the time to keep in contact with my sons and expressed his encouragement as they strive to raise their families.
Thank you Marty for being a friend. I will miss you.

Marty and my late husband, Don Bray, were best buddies from the time they first met in Barrington. N.S at the military base in 1971. Our families became fast friends that continues to this day. Unfortunately we lost Don in Nov 2009 and now we have lost Marty. There are many tales of Marty and Don's escapades together but suffice to say that it was always a good time. He will be very missed not only by his children and grandchildren but by those who called him friend. His photography art will live on. Just on Sunday, I stood and looked at the beautiful framed wood duck photo hanging by my front door that Marty had done and thought about him. Bon Voyage Marty. We lost you and Don far too soon.
